Alumni

ALUMNI ANNOUNCEMENT:

Alumni of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras and the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony will reunite for a special 60th anniversary celebration during the 2024-2025 AYPO concert season.

Launched in 1964 as the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony Association, today’s AYPO is reaching out to reconnect with thousands of alumni who have enjoyed the life-enhancing benefits of membership in one of the country’s leading youth orchestra programs. Members of AYPO’s Administrative and Artistic Staffs as well as volunteers are planning reunion events to include alumni in masterclasses and seminars with students participating in the current orchestras and ensembles.

Some graduates of the class of 2023 will continue their studies at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Eastman School of Music, The Julliard School, Manhattan School of Music, New England School of Music and the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.

Currently, AYPO oversees more than 650 students from the greater Washington, D.C., region. It administers seven orchestras, six ensembles, the Music Buddies mentoring program and the Summer Strings Academy.  The AYPO Board of Directors has adopted a strategic plan which includes increasing access to AYPO programs to all talented musicians regardless of ethnicity or economic background.

Please register here to continue to receive information about our 60th anniversary program.  We look forward to hearing from you!
