AYPO Appoints New Music Director After a two year search process, AYPO is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Music Director, Daniel Spalding! "We are very pleased to welcome Daniel Spalding as the new AYPO Music Director. He works so well with our musicians, both as conductor and educator, and will be a wonderful asset to the AYPO program," said Margaret Adams, President of the AYPO Board of Directors. 2010-2011 will mark the inaugural season of Maestro Spalding as Music Director of AYPO and conductor of the American Youth Philharmonic. Thank you to all members of the AYPO family for your input during the search process. We especially thank Music Director Emeritus, Luis Haza, for his help in the search for a new Music Director and for his 25 years of dedication and service to AYPO. About the Search for AYPO Music Director With the help of Mr. Haza, AYPO began the extensive search for a new Music Director in September 2008. The process of searching for Mr. Haza's successor was a thrilling and enlightening process that involved the review of more than 95 applicants from throughout the United States and beyond. AYPO's Search Committee worked hard to narrow down the selection pool of candidates to those who were best qualified and suited to continue and build the musical excellence of the AYPO program. Two finalists conducted AYP concerts during the 2009-2010 season and AYPO announced the appointment of Daniel Spalding as the new Music Director on April 11, 2010 (click here to read the press release).
