Message from the Music Director

As we enter my first full season as Music Director of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras I was confronted with one of the most fun aspects of the job: planning the repertoire for the American Youth Philharmonic’s upcoming season. I didn’t hold back in any respect. While this season ’s music will be challenging to be sure, you will experience some of the greatest, most interesting, exciting and beautiful music ever written for orchestra. I love mixing the traditional with the new and programming works that you might not expect, whether it’s Fantasy Concerto for Two Timpanists and Orchestra by Philip Glass or the film music of Bernard Herrmann, you are in for a wild ride. Plus, AYP musicians will have the chance to perform with some incredible soloists: Clarinetist Doris-Hall Gulati, Violinist Odin Rathnam, and Timpanists Jonathan Rance and our very own Douglas Wallace. I can’t wait to get started!
