Who We Are |
Artistic Staff Julia Sun, Strings Coordinator, American Youth Symphonic and Concert Orchestras
After graduating in 1998 from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Ms. Sun continued pursuing a Masters degree in Music Education. Prior to her completion of the degree in 2000, she received certification as an Orff-Schulwerk instructor, a program which focuses on teaching elemental music to children. Some highlights of her freelance years include performances spanning both classical and contemporary. Her performance repertoire includes productions of Handel’s Messiah with the National Symphony Chamber Players, Gloria with the NOVA Choir, creations of Oklahoma, Romeo and Juliet, and My Fair Lady with the Annandale Westminster School and as a recording artist for Patrick Mulhern, Irish Tenor. From 1994 to the present, Ms. Sun’s career has been focused on her passions for teaching violin at her private studio in Fairfax, Virginia. She has taught hundreds of students at every level, from pre-school through university level and has built a solid reputation as a leader in teaching modern, progressive violin techniques to her students. Her students have been accepted into the AYP Orchestras, the Youth Orchestra of Fairfax, George Mason Symphony, Virginia All-State Orchestra, Senior Regional Orchestra, and All-District Senior and Junior Orchestras. Ms. Sun has worked with the Vienna Summer Strings Camp for the past 6 year as a string instructor. She has also served as the string coach for the Potomac Music Academy at George Mason University in 2005. Recently, Ms. Sun began working with the American String Teacher Association’s Special Events committee to plan programs that will attract strings teachers and students in the area to become more active in the string community. Despite involvement with her scholastic and performance pursuits, Ms. Sun remains committed to her individual students. |
